Chinese EV giant BYD has shaken up the Australian market once again with the launch of a new ultra-affordable electric vehicle. The BYD Atto 1, a compact city-focused EV, has been officially confirmed for Australia with an eye-catching starting price of $23,990 plus on-road costs—coming in at roughly $26,000 drive-away. This entry-level variant features a smaller battery and reduced power output, aiming to offer an accessible option for everyday urban drivers.
The range-topping model is priced at $27,990 plus on-roads, or around $30,000 drive-away, positioning it below several petrol and hybrid hatchbacks in the same segment. BYD’s aggressive pricing strategy places the Atto 1 among the most affordable EVs ever introduced to the Australian market.
